Day 8, April 3
Amsterdam and the cruise begins
Entertainment today is shore trips from the boat/ship, morning excursion to Zaanse Schans - historical village with working windmills, Gouda cheese factory, wooden shoe maker, etc.
I get some more insight into dikes, canals and drainage ditches. The water in the foreground is a metre or so higher than that on the other side of the path (dike).
Compare the size of the "big fat hen" with the goats.
Afternoon visit to massive gardens at Keukenhof.
Daffodils just grow along the roadside here.
Massive fields of tulips. All these blooms are cut off and thrown away! They are only growing these to harvest and sell the bulbs.

The gardens are replanted every year and are an exhibition centre for growers throughout the Netherlands
During the night while we sleep, AmaVerde cruises up the canal towards the River Rhine.
